PHYS4950 Special Topics Syllabus----GRE Study/Prep

Fall 2013 Dr. Colbert

We will meet once a week on Tuesdays from 2:00PM to 2:50. Class time will be spent on several physics problems from selected released GRE Physics exams. I'll have several problems prepared as a "quiz" (partial GRE) each class day. After completing those problems at GRE speeds, we will discuss those or other problems.

You will prepare one written discussion for each class day (select a problem we have not yet gone over) and write up an explanation of each of the results and relevant issues or considerations to correctly answering the problem in approximately one minute. You will keep a notebook of problems. At the end of the course you will have 15 problems and taken 15 quizzes, this will count as a total of "30" points. . I expect your problem discussions will be substantive. Grades will be based on completion as follows.

Points >= 25 A

Points between (inclusive) 20 and 24 B

Points between 15 and 19 C

Points between 10 and 14 D
